Up with the sun, ready by 7 am & visited golden temple. To get the entrance ticket need to walk around 1.5 kms. It was a wonderful walk surrounded with hills
and beautiful views. Caves are full of Buddha statues and painting, there are
few lotus pond at the hills. Breeze at the hills was soothing to mind and
post the view of caves, was enjoying the breeze with scenic views. Headed down
directly to breakfast and went to room and refreshed was getting ready for the
next base. Was ready by 10.00 and went to bus stop to move to kandy. Moment
reaching Kandy, drenched in the rain which was paid off for last few warm days.
Had
lunch and was little skeptical to walk for 1.5 kms with the humpy & bumpy.
Near the restaurant found a thamizh speaking TT driver and went to the hostel
which is around 1.5 kms. As we started conversing, made up the plan for the day
while he agreed to wait for me to refresh.
Noon
at Kandy
First
visited the crowded kandy station and understood the 2nd class
unreserved tickets can be bought only on the day of travel prior to 1 hour of
train departure. Next was to walk around the peredeniya gardens, the biggest
botanical garden in south Asia. The temperature had
dropped with few drizzle and turned into pleasant weather. Walking around the garden was very relaxing,
infact a whole day can be spent in the gardens.
After 3 hours of walking and smelling the
freshness of nature, counting the tallness of trees, went to the market to discover spices/snacks/tea for next
train travel. TT driver winded the ride at the kandy lake, spent few hours
around the wide lake. Post I gained my energy back, stepped in to tooth temple
which was well maintained and looks like a rich palace with several art work.
History of Buddha and the story about the tooth has been depicted with pictures.
With
this the game plan the cultural triangle of srilanka (Anuradhapura, dambulla
& sigriya) has been accomplished
How
to reach Kandy from dambulla
There
is no necessity to wait for intercity bus, as dambulla is an intermediate stop,
its better to take a local bus which are quite frequent. Took the bus and had
seat in the middle, when i checked the old lady if i can seated next to window,
she accepted immediately, in turn during the journey we shared some chocolates
and nuts.
